Course #9: DEPTH AND DIMENSION—DRAW AND PAINT
Instructor: Linda Luisi
Thursdays, 2–5 PM
Apr. 12–May 17 (6 weeks)
La Jolla Studio
$170/190 + $8 mat. fee
In this class you will create art through a series of structured, fun and unique lessons for a greater understanding of depth and dimension. Returning students will learn new material.
There will be individual attention for all levels (first-time beginners and experienced artists). You will learn how to make objects look three-dimensional, how to create scenes with greater spatial depth, and how to “push the envelope” to enhance the realistic quality of any piece of art, including highlights and shadows (3D basics), perspective and positioning (for well-grounded subjects), and value contrast and tonal graduation (to make objects stand out). We will draw and paint various subjects, such as 3-D shapes, parts of the face, water lilies, clouds, hot air balloons, draped cloth, fountains, archways, and more. You will learn essential elements to include in your own work. There will be handouts especially prepared for this class. You will have an opportunity to bring other art to discuss (or work on) in class to improve on depth. This class applies to all types of art: realism, impressionism, and abstract art, plus any media. These lessons will give you greater confidence to draw and paint anything that comes your way.
Materials: This class is not limited to a specific media. You may work solely with pencil or add another media of your choice: a basic set of acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, charcoal, etc., with the appropriate papers or surfaces for that media. Be sure to bring a drawing pad (9” x 12” or larger) or simply plenty of white paper, plus soft pencils (as in 4B, 6B), a ruler, and an eraser. Contact Linda if you have any questions: linda@lindaluisi.com. THERE WILL BE AN $8 MATERIALS FEE COLLECTED BY THE INSTRUCTOR AT THE FIRST CLASS.
